WICB introduction

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). It is a full member of the International Cricket Council. The WICB is made of by the Cricket Association of:

  • Barbados
  • Guyana
  • Jamaica
  • Leeward Islands
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Windward Islands

These all make up a single team to take part in international events, such as the Cricket World Cup, and international friendly matches.

    WICB two flags, one emblem

I seem to recall the West Indies cricket flag (or flag of the West Indies Cricket Board of Control or some similar name) being discussed in 2000, but cannot find where this information has been placed on fotw-ws. IIRC, two variants were mentioned - one with a white and a green stripe in the background, and the other with a plain maroon background. I saw both today - the one with stripes was the officially used one, flown from the Members Stand, whereas a spectator was waving one without stripes.

    Flag #1

During the Oppening ceremony of the Cricket World Cup, organized by International Cricket Council, at South-Africa on February 8, 2003, the West Indies side marched with a plain red flag with the emblem of the WICB over all in the center. It is assumed that the same flag is of the West Indies Cricket Board.
The emblem consist of a Polish blue field charged with depictions of an island, a palm-tree, a bail and a rising sun.

When the West Indies cricket team was in South Africa at the end of last year/beginning of this year, they used this flag but the background was dark red/maroon - definitely not brown. Some of the flags just had the shield in the centre of a plain field with no horizontal stripes.

    Flag #2

Did anybody catch a little more of the opening ceremony of the cricket world cup (1999) than what they showed on BBC ?
There were 12 huge flags there for the participating nations, and they seemed OK, the ones I saw. But I did not see the flag they used for the West Indies.
Usually they use the Brown with three small white stripes, but it could also be the plain brown with coat-of-arms.
Herman De Wael, 16 May 1999

The site http://www-uk.cricket.org/ has little flags on the homepage, and the one of the West Indies doesn't have stripes.
    Mark Sensen, 21 May, 1999

[...] While I would definitely call the brown colour erroneous (they should be maroon or red), the version with green and white stripes has definitely been used officially on some occasions. Jonathan Dixon, December 2006.

According the web site of the West Indies Board, in the banner appears an images that seems to be the flag of the body.
